There is a very good possibility that your health insurance may not cover you when traveling internationally. Fortunately, medical travel insurance is relatively inexpensive.
When preparing to travel internationally, the U.S. Department of State recommends that you ask your insurance company the following questions:
- Does this insurance policy cover emergency expenses abroad such as returning me to the United States for treatment if I am seriously ill?
- Does this insurance cover high-risk activities such as parasailing, mountain climbing, scuba diving and off-roading?
- Does this policy cover pre-existing conditions?

If you are traveling from another country to the United States, you may need travel insurance or medical travel insurance.
The U.K. Foreign & Commonwealth Office states the following on its website: "Many people deeply regret not taking out travel insurance. They think their credit card accident cover, home insurance, or private health cover is sufficient." They state that if you need to be returned to the U.K. via air ambulance it could cost thousands of pounds, and they add a following point, "Remember: the British Embassy or High Commission will not pay for this."
But fortunately, medical travel insurance is inexpensive, making it an easy option. |

Instead, you will likely need to purchase extreme athletics and adventure medical insurance. These plans are designed to supplement other insurance that does not cover extreme sports or adventure travel activities.
Fortunately, there is reasonably priced extreme sports and adventure medical travel insurance. |

Yes, you may need travel insurance for Spring Break for two reasons:
- If your trip is cancelled, travel insurance may cover the cost of the trip.
- Your health insurance may not cover you adequately while traveling out of the country on Spring Break to Cancun or elsewhere.
Fortunately, medical travel insurance is very inexpensive. |
